snom technology Presents Software Based NAT Traversal
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 27, 2004--snom technology announces "The snom 4S NAT Filter" snom's SIP NAT solution at ABP's reseller conference "VoIP Sizzles in Dallas." This software network component enables SIP phones to make calls from private networks without support from the SIP user agent. By using Interactive Communication Establishment (ICE) technology, it maximizes the number of calls that can be routed directly between the phones and thus maximizes the quality. The solution works with RFC3261-compliant phones, including the snom 105/190/200/220 phones and other hard and soft phones.
The NAT Filter is put in front of an RF3261-compliant SIP Proxy and operated on public Internet. Operators can use one or many NAT filters, depending on the network load. It includes a STUN server that the phones can use to detect the nearest NAT Filter. This is an important step in automatically setting up user agents for the nearest outbound proxy. Using this technology together with ICE, can minimized the overall delay of media transport. Operators can place NAT filters in different places to optimize the media delay.
The NAT Filter supports all SIP-compliant applications, including instant messaging, presence and online-gaming. For SIP-calls, it allows audio and video sessions. By following the SIP philosophy of a stateless proxy, it interacts with all future applications without software upgrade.
