"Our deepest appreciation goes to The Coca-Cola Foundation for its support of the First Generation Scholarship Program through the Iowa College Foundation," said Dr. James E. Bultman, 1998-99 Chair of ICF's Board, and President of Northwestern College in Orange City, IA.

"As a college president, I know what this generous scholarship support will mean to these students and their families. I commend Coca-Cola for its leadership in creating this prestigious program in Iowa and across the nation," said Bultman

Through collaboration with the Iowa College Foundation, The Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship offers a $5,000 scholarship to incoming freshmen who will be the first in their immediate family to seek a college education.

The scholarship is available over a four-year period, assuming the student goes to school full-time and maintains a minimum 3.0 academic rating.

The Oct. 12 event was attended by Sheets, her family, Governor Tom Vilsack, representatives from The Coca-Cola Foundation, Coca-Cola bottler officials, members of the Board of Governors of the Iowa College Foundation and presidents and representatives from participating institutions.

"The Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship Program provides a tremendous opportunity for several very deserving students to achieve their goal of higher education and the benefits such an experience will provide later in life," said Governor Vilsack.

"I am pleased to see Coca-Cola and the Iowa College Foundation working together to help students realize their dreams and those of their families."
